Director Rob Savage Has An Idea For The Boogeyman 2

Director Rob Savage has teased The Boogeyman 2 with a clever idea that could make the sequel a truly original horror concept. In an elevator-pitch style reveal, Savage said "It would be a bit Halloween II. So it feeds in to the story of the Harpers from the first movie...we're not following the monster. We're not following the family. We're telling another story that kind of intersects...but from a completely unique perspective".

Though Savage's description is somewhat vague, it's clear that the director is excited about the possibility of making another Boogeyman movie. However, in the same interview, Savage backpedled a bit when he said "Whether it makes sense to do a sequel? Whether the studio is going to want to do sequel? I don't know". If Boogeyman 2 does eventually happen, it's clear that Savage wants to be involved.

Disney and 20th Century have yet to announce plans for The Boogeyman 2, so it is not officially happening at the moment. They moved it from streaming to give it a theatrical release in hopes that it would be a hit and even possibly launch a new horror franchise. The Boogeyman's Rotten Tomatoes score reflects how much audiences are enjoying the thrilling tale. This makes it more likely that The Boogeyman 2 could be announced.

Who Could Return In The Sequel?

There are several familiar characters who can return as part of The Boogeyman 2's cast. The sequel can very easily focus on the Harper family again. This would allow Sophie Thatcher to return as Sadie, while Vivien Lyra Blair can also return as Sawyer. More flashbacks could also be used to help Shauna Rappold return as Cara Harper, Sawyer and Sadie's mom. It would also make sense for the family's therapist Dr. Weller (LisaGay Hamilton) to come back as well.

Other very different possibilities exist for who could be part of The Boogeyman 2 cast. The sequel could turn the franchise into an anthology story and bring new characters and cast members into contact with the monster. A prequel might also be preferred instead of a sequel. This could explore the full backstory of the Billings family and allow David Dastmalchian to return as Lester and Marin Ireland to come back as Rita after playing small roles in The Boogeyman's cast.

The Boogeyman 2's story is seemingly set up during the final moments of the original movie. It concludes with Sadie, Sawyer, and Will finally going to therapy as a family, but Sadie goes back into the therapist's office as they are leaving because Thatcher's character hears Dr. Weller call out to her. This is when she sees the closet in the office cracked open and sees one of the hangers moving.

While Sadie closes the closet door to end the movie, the moment teases that the monster is still alive and wants her and her family. This sets up The Boogeyman 2's story to explore the continued fight between the Harper family and the creature. They might be learning how to cope with their grief, but that does not mean that the Boogeyman is done preying on their fears. Since Sawyer and Will do not know of Sadie's experience, it is possible the sequel will explore her continuing to hide this fact from them and trying to carry the burden on her own.
