How do you create the best weapons?
First and foremost, staves function fundamentally different than all other weapons, which is the reason why I only consider non-staff physical weapons in the following. Crafting weapons is way less complicated than crafting armor, since the order of the upgrade materials doesn’t play that much of a role as it did with armor (since we wont use Object X any longer). The creation process in terms of fashion is also similar as it is with armor, so you can just use the method written in the section "How to build this and what about fashion?" for that.
What we want from our weapon is a high critical hit rate, dizziness factor and drain factor. To maximize dizziness, we use an item that was already present in RF4, the Light Ore. Basically, using a Light Ore in combination with a weapon as inheritance lets us carry over the stats of a weapon from a different category than the created weapon. That way, you can for example have a short sword with the stats of a hammer.
The best weapon in terms of stats is the Splash Star Hammer, with a physical attack power of 14.000 and a dizziness of 35. That is the highest attack power and second highest dizziness in the entire game. Only the Fatal Crush Hammer has a higher dizziness with 40, but way less attack power with 11.500. Nevertheless, the best aspect of the Splash Star Hammer is the fact that it automatically adds a light attribute to its physical attacks, which is statistically the best attribute in the game, since most enemies have a light attribute weakness and lack a resistance compared to all other elements. The disadvantage is that hammers generally are rather slow in attacking and don’t posses a great handling compared to all other weapons. Here comes the Light Ore into play. Just imagine the fast dual blades with the stats of that hammer.
Now onto the actual upgrades for the optimal physical weapon.

Craft 2 | FREE |

Level 2 | FREE |
Level 3 | FREE |
Level 4 | FREE |
Level 5 | FREE |
Level 6 | Glitta Augite |
Level 7 | Double Steel |
Level 8 | Tablet of Truth |
Level 9 | 10-fold Steel |
Personally, I recommend to ten-fold a Tablet of Truth alongside another one as an inheritance to get a critical hit rate of 100%. The build already deals so much damage that another ten-folded Brilliant Scale wouldn’t to much difference. Your armor alone already provides around 13.500 base strength, while the Splash Star Hammer adds 14.000 ATK on top of that. With the rarity and quality bonuses of your crafting and upgrading items, alongside your own base stats you get by leveling, the damage you deal is already ridiculously high enough, making that extra 2700 strength not that much important. Of course, you could also use a Lucky Strike as an accessory to reach the 100% critical hit rate, but I personally don't recommend to waste one of the four precious accessory slots for that if there is another option. If youpreviously haven't used a Tablet of Truth for your last free slot in your equipment build, I highly recommend to use an additional one here for your "Craft 1" slot as an inheritance to still ensure the 100% critical hit rate.
Furthermore, two-folding one Glitta Augite is absolutely enough for the attack range of your weapon. Any further range enhancements will just make the game lag or cause an error message. The remaining free slots can be filled as you like depending on your play style. In the following, I list the best possible materials you could choose from for the remaining slots.
- Love Crystal: 3% health drain (sadly the Legendary Scale from RF4 with 10% health drain doesn’t exist anymore; you can farm them from Dark Pixies in Atohl's End 2F)
- All Giant Golden Crops: Give 2% faint attack and also a hidden passive that makes enemies drop the corresponding non golden crop when you trigger faint
- Shade Stone: Increases a weapon's element potency. For example, a weapon with fire element will be twice as effective against monsters that are weak to fire. Mined in Atohl's End 2F. Only useful in specific cases, since your enemy needs to have the right elemental weakness your weapon has. Not recommended in late game, since there are better ways to always deal increased damage
- Brilliant Scale: 300 Strength (drop from Red Dragon in Rigbarth Maze 3F, 13F and 19F)
- Basilisk Scale: 300 Strength, -10 Intelligence (10% drop of the Naga boss in Rigbarth Maze 10F, 5% from Basilisk in Kelve Lava Caves)
- Glitta Augite: Increases attack range (chop down the shining trees)
- Melody Bottle: 10% to all status ailments and 1% to faint (amazing in early game, but not so much in late game since we one or two shot most enemies anyway; you can farm them pretty early from the Siren in the ice region’s frozen lake and later from other Siren monsters)
- Tablet of Truth: 10% critical hit rate (20% drop of the boss Blazing Hecatonchire in Rigbarth Maze 2F, 2% from Hecatonchire in Kelve Lava Caves - Depths)
- Holy Spore: 33% to poison, seal and paralyze (dropped by Death Fungus in Forest of No Return 15F)
- Poison King: 80% poison (drop from the Naga boss in Rigbarth Maze)
- Dangerous Scissors: 195 Atk, -50 Def (drop from Diamond Bee in Rigbarth Maze 15F)
- Big Giants Nail: 150 Atk (dropped by Murder Troll in Meline Crystal Caverns Depths and SEED Flying Fortress)
- Scarlet Dragon Claw: 140 Atk (5% drop from the boss Umbradea in Everlasting Darkness)
- Golden Dragon Claw: 135 Atk (Once you have done all 15 wanted monster quests, you can do three extra ones every day. If you do those three in a single day Livia will give you a Golden Dragon Claw and Scale)
- Scarlet Scale: 350 Vitality (10% drop from the boss Umbradea in Everlasting Darkness)
- Golden Scale: 360 Vitality (see Golden Dragon Claw)
- Four-Leaf Clover: Slightly increases item drop rate
- Rare Can: Slightly increases item drop rate
- Double Steel and 10-fold Steel: Multiplies the effect of the last item used by two/eight (drop from gem-squirrels in Cloudheim 2F)
Most of the really good upgrade items from RF4 got lost, so we have to arrange ourselves with what we can. With the damage we already deal, around 10% of health drain should be absolutely enough to always stay at full HP in my opinion. The following build is a possible weapon build I would recommend for endgame.
Level | Weapon |
Base | Your weapon of choice |
Craft 1 | Love Crystal |
Craft 2 | Love Crystal |
Craft 3 | Love Crystal |
Level 1 | Love Crystal |
Level 2 | Brilliant Scale |
Level 3 | Basilisk Scale |
Level 4 | Four-Leaf Clover |
Level 5 | Rare Can |
Level 6 | Glitta Augite |
Level 7 | Double Steel |
Level 8 | Tablet of Truth |
Level 9 | 10-fold Steel |
This build yields 100% critical hit rate and 12% health drain alongside an increased item drop rate, some extra attack damage and range.
An in depth step by step example on how to craft such an weapon can be seen in section "Crafting Examples".
